Quantum Mechanics, and Decoherence

چکیده
State-reduction and the notion of actuality are compared to passagethrough time and the notion of the present; already in classical relativity the latter give rise to di¢ culties. The solution proposed here is to treat both tense and value-de niteness as relational properties or facts as relations; likewise the notions of change and probability. In both cases essential characteristics are absent: temporal relations are tenselessly true; probabilistic relations are deterministically true. The basic ideas go back to Everett, although the technical development makes use of the decoherent histories theory of Gri¢ ths, Omnès, and Gell-Mann and Hartle. Alternative interpretations of the decoherent histories framework are also considered.

Decoherence effects on quantum Fisher information of multi-qubit W states
Quantum fisher information of a parameter characterizing the sensitivity of a state with respect to parameter changes. In this paper, we study the quantum fisher information of the W state for four, five, six and seven particles in decoherence channels, such as amplitude damping, phase damping and depolarizing channel. Using Krauss operators for decoherence channels components, we investigate t...
متن کاملDecoherence and the foundations of quantum mechanics
This is an introduction to decoherence with an emphasis on the foundational and conceptual aspects of the theory. It explores the extent to which decoherence suggests a solution to the measurement problem, and evaluates the role of decoherence in several different interpretations of quantum mechanics. [This paper is essentially a short version of: M. Schlosshauer, “Decoherence, the measurement ...
متن کاملMeasurements and Decoherence
A pedagogical and reasonably self-contained introduction to the measurement problems in quantum mechanics and their partial solution by environment-induced decoherence (plus some other important aspects of decoherence) is given. The point that decoherence does not solve the measurement problems completely is clearly brought out. The relevance of interpretation of quantum mechanics in this contex...

متن کاملDecoherence and quantum contextuality
Decoherence is the most widely accepted mechanism to explain the loss of coherence in quantum systems. Here we show how simple (quantum) trajectory–based models can help to understand the physics behind decoherence processes. In particular, we will analyze with these models the relationship between decoherence and quantum contextuality in the double–slit experiment, where two (quantum) contexts...
متن کاملDecoherence, the measurement problem, and interpretations of quantum mechanics
Environment-induced decoherence and superselection have been a subject of intensive research over the past two decades, yet their implications for the foundational problems of quantum mechanics, most notably the quantum measurement problem, have remained a matter of great controversy. This paper is intended to clarify key features of the decoherence program, including its more recent results, a...
